I wish there were more vaccines that would work as post-exposure prophylaxis, eliminating the need for universal vaccination campaigns.
Rabies is also a great example of a virus that certainly does exist, has been isolated & purified, has a clear & well-defined transmission mechanism, and causes a disease with unmistakeable, characteristic symptoms. Koch's postulates are fully met.
I'm curious why you say that the rabies vaccines are "pretty dangerous as jabs go". All I can find is this website that says the rabies jabs cause sore arms, headache and nausea at a fairly high rate; but the rate of anaphylaxis is about 1 in 10,000, and no one has ever died from this vaxx. Does your data say something worse?
Thanks for the link! I never knew about rabies immunogobin. I did know Koch's postulates were good with this one. Regarding why I heard it was "unsafe" this goes back to things I read about US military, who are given rabies jabs prophylactically (i.e. without exposure, in case they are exposed). A lot complained of side effects including fever, malaise and disorientation. Keep in mind the bad effects are still pretty low, just higher than most, and it might be confounded by the number of jabs these folks receive (i.e. separating rabies out from real dangerous anthrax jabs maybe given in close proximity, as one example). I'll have to dig up the study, but anecdotally I've also heard some things. Then again cobra antivenom probably has side effects...and I'm still going to want it if I've just been bitten by a cobra ..
BTW, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is successfully used in treatments of several diseases - whooping cough, polio, tetanus (IV version). Look up dr. Suzanne Humphreys and Dissolving Illusions book.
Thank you I read through and am not in disagreement. I hope a new smallpox would end up like another Covid lite, perhaps because of better sanitation or evolution if immune systems or something else. I can't say for sure. Dr. Suzanne Humphreys does a great job my hat is off to her. But I'm still not sure anybody has addressed rabies...
I couldn't agree with you more. We don't have any bats near our house (or rats or mice-I think all the feral cats I feed keep them all away) though there are some down the hill I see at dusk if I'm walking or running. I did know that bats are one of the main vectors for rabies so I can understand you making that call. I've seen this maddening redefining of anti-vaxxer into anyone who opposes or even questions any jab under any circumstances at any time. For me this is a scale of 1 to 7, with 1 being someone who believes all jabs are universally safe universally effective universally good for all in all circumstances, with a 7 being a true no jabs ever person. I was using the most extreme example to make a point: there's almost no 7s out there. Instead they've moved it to a dichotomy where anyone above a 1 on the scale is anti-vaxxer. I understand totally on losing a lot: I can't really work any job in Thailand right now (no mask/no jab). My savings has evaporated, my publishing work has dried up and it's tough times...but I have to put my faith in God...
