It seems we’re at an inflection point. Like a majority of people I assume that those in power will continue ramming Covid restrictions down everyone’s throat in the fall. It’s simply a matter of if anybody goes along with them.
Both #donotcomply and #stoptheshots were trending on twitter today. The #donotcomply space seemed to be divided between people who actually do not plan to comply and some bluecheck nuts guilt tripping the non mask wearing for being whiny babies. It blows me away that yes, there really are people out there who sincerely believe that the masks and the jabs work which is why we just need to bring them back again. I pointed out that the masks don’t work in almost every space I could. Really though it has become a religious belief and you can’t prove a negative.
I suspect but can not prove that I might have caught the Covid bug 10 days ago on the beach. My daughter made a friend with a girl from America and I was playing freeze tag with them both. The girl, who was seven almost eight years old as she babbled enthusiastically, did not appear sick in the least, but that has really been the only physical contact I’ve had with anyone outside of my family in months. It is also possible that the girl had been jabbed for Covid and shedding, though it wouldn’t have been required for her to enter Thailand per say. We promised to meet back on Nai Yang beach for July 4, but it was a total rainout. I got sick the evening of July 5. Can I prove that I got this from her? No, and nor do I care, as the risk of catching illnesses from children playing is a risk that comes with being human. I don’t want to live in a world where I view other people, especially children, as nothing more than potential disease carriers. It’s sad that some people have internalized that dim view of humanity and think it’s a good thing.
Both me and my daughter seemed to have cleared our probable Covid. I was under the weather for about five days while my girl was feverish for two or three days. I am sure that I have not been vigilant about wearing a facemask since I never wear one. A friend dropped by yesterday and we got to drinking laow khao Thai whiskey. Since it tastes like paint thinner I mixed it with m roy ha sip, an energy drink with lots of B vitamins. So here comes my mandatory disclaimer. My Covid would have been so much worse if not for those four (or five) shots I took. Or was it the Killers music?
I’m not ridiculous enough to believe that drinking alcohol cures respiratory infections, but prove me wrong. I do consider it a good sign that I didn’t rebound, so rotgut Thai whiskey apparently has a better track record than Paxlovid. My treatment protocol involved some bicarbonate multivitamins from Family Mart, green tea, ginger tea, lots of oranges, acetaminophin for fever and mint throat lozenges. I’ve been through a lot worse though the migraine and fever was pretty terrible at first. Here’s to good health.
Novak Djokovic won Wimbledon after getting deported from Australia for daring to come into the country unjabbed against Covid-19 in January. This is the first major he has been allowed to compete in this year. At a bare minimum his victory is not supportive of the narrative. He won’t go to any event he’s not allowed in unjabbed. He’s willing to take a principled stand for bodily integrity and for that I consider him the greatest of all time. He’s also making a common sense calculation as these shots have destroyed the health and careers of many athletes. I’ve been wondering for a while when somebody whose career was ruined over these things does some real dollars and cents calculations on what that’s worth. So far it hasn’t happened. Many are probably hoping to get better. Some have dropped dead already, as medical experts remain baffled.
I consider it a good sign that twitter still hasn’t squashed the #donotcomply thread. At the end of the day you have to have awkward face to face interactions, where you say no.
Are they trying to bring facemasks and the like back in your area? How are people responding to it? They seem to be coming off more broadly in Thailand lately…
I live in Minneapolis, and a singing group I am - or was - a member of, never quit the restrictions.
For two years plus all singings have been outdoors only - yes, I said outdoors in Minnesota - and until recently were vaxx required, masks required, social distance required. It does wonders for the resonant sound.
They are having a "large" singing this weekend - they were tempted to try a tent, but dropped that idea since it is too dangerous. It will be outdoors on a lawn of a church, and ALL attendees will be given a quick test before being allowed to participate. Masks are now described as optional, but anyone who walks in the church building MUST be masked at all times.
I've given up on the group - partly because I don't want to be right next to multi boosted people singing full volume - and partly because there's another epidemic I want to avoid - the epidemic of fear. I never got used to masks; they creeped me out two years ago, and they still creep me out.
The "voluntary" part of this extermination is over. Now they're moving to starvation to finish us off.
