Great writing and spirit Amy. The first instrument, the voice, nice to know your history with learning to sing, and how it's only partly about 'how good your voice is' , it's the spirit of the thing that people will grab on to and one's will to sing in the first place. Your story broke the hard shell I seem to carry around me, gave me some tears to water the ground and soften me up some. Thanks so.
Amy you don't need makeup any more than you need reverb.
do you have reaper? doesn't take up much memory (can't remember, did you eventually get that tablet) and simpler interface than protools. there really ought to be a mfm band with you out front.
nymusicdaily, since you were sufficiently concerned about my identity to join the Laurie Bender Flat Earth Zoom Call Club after one year plus of exchanging countless emails and editing brainstorm sessions and so forth, it only seems right that I should be concerned with your identity.
Would you like to email me your real name and your work history so that we can give you the proper byline that you richly deserve?
I know that you are a standup guy and would enjoy the same type of scrutiny.
I remember the music teacher , despite my protests. telling me I had to sing with the others. I was pretty young.... so it was one time when the "teacher" won out . (almost) . Finally I gave in and forced myself to sing , but not for long. She stopped us and said "its ok, you don't need to sing"
Thank you, Amy! I'd pretty much stopped listening to the radio because most of the new music sucks. That Sara Bareilles song was great and very apropo for our times!
I like that one aand ws singing it at one of my impromptu karaoke days recently. The only thing the video is missing is the smartphones everybody is always buried in...
in third grade class the teacher divided the class into two singing groups, those who could hit the high notes (all the girls) and those with the low notes (all the boys & me the only girl)… after that, never sang again it was a humiliating experience to be singled out like that😿… fortunately my mom sang around the house all the time and had the record player on🌼
I'm sorry to hear about that. Those experiences when we are young often stick with us for life and create mental blocks later in life. The funny and sad thing is choirs I've been in all of my life were usually in short supply of lower range voices, which are so necessary. Everybody was trying for first soprano even though their own voice was plenty good enough just where God put it!

We change the world by being our truest authentic self in this moment. Accepting our divine nature exactly as we are.

I did better as the class clown :-)
LOL I remember always bugging the detention girl to actually sing. I never heard a note from her. It doesn't appeal to everyone!
