Great question I was asking yesterday! With my dead husband and mother in law and father in law, they had a specific site in the grave area of Wat Prathong where the ashes were buried in the ground. This was very important to my first husband I'd known for years before he died his exact intents on burial. This is somewhat uncommon though many Buddhist Temples do not have a grave area including this one. There usually is a mausoleum in the Wat. In some cases perhaps the ashes are put in an urn and taken by the family to another place. I still have not gotten an answer regarding this the cremation was yesterday
