Ukraine has a lot of masses. They liked Zelensky, a popular TV comedian. He was brought to power by the oligarch who owned the show. My guess is that the powers that be were simply picking a guy they thought could win. The press here is owned by you-know-who, like just about everywhere. Zelensky is one of the boys. There have long been close links with the US press. The Kyiv Post is a bastion of leftists.
This crowd sent large, most likely illegal contributions to Obama and Hillary, probably others before them, in the time honored tradition of buying access. This time around it is The Big Guy, the son and SBF. So corrupt I expect the story will actually get out this time. This crowd almost certainly promoted the biolabs - see the relevant chapter in Lies My Government Told Me. Ukraine was vulnerable - both needy as a country and corrupt at higher levels.
Remarkably, at the people level I enjoy significantly more freedom here than in the US. Corrupt officials are content with money. They don't make us bow before idols like diversity, gay, trans, climate and so on. We can say and do what we want.
And that's the story I tell on my Substack. Glad to be a subscriber to yours.
Sad fact is that Putin is a trapped rat. Peace will come when he is gone. With regard to the money pit, every war is a money pit. I saw it as a civilian contractor in Vietnam. From all I can see Ukraine is not that bad. Conversely, Russia's absolute corruption is the reason that they muffed what the whole world would thought would be a cakewalk last February.
Hard to believe, but Russia is even more corrupt and brutal than the USA. We in Ukraine are between a rock and a hard place. Grateful for US help, holding our noses at the US corruption Zelensky has to endure to get the help we need.
This is the war that the US and NATO spent trillions preparing for over seven decades. It is not costing American lives, and is very cheap relative to the sunk costs in munitions.
Biggest question is how we deal with the Covid-mongers, CBDC promoters, climate fraudsters et. al. who will be knocking at the door after we win. Won't be easy. And first we have to win. Whatever we may think of NATO, it has been essential to our survival.
We can be thankful that Russia's barbaric nature has been on such fine display. It strengthens weak backbones throughout the west. Now, Amy, how do you justify Russia's barbaric behavior?
Even more fantastically radical.

Thanks. I have a few people on here with ties to Ukraine. It's a money pit for sure. My prayer is for peace

I don't justify Russia's behavior. I think war is a battle of the elites against the masses
