A few months ago I did a substack poll asking some of my long term readers which job out of five I had never worked in my life. It was intended to be a head fake and it was: around 80% of those who voted in the poll assumed that I had never worked for anything related to the US government. I’ve actually never worked as a waittress (or at McDonald’s for that matter).
In 2009 and early 2010 I worked for the US Census Bureau as a surveyer. I canvassed areas in LA looking for structures which might have people living in them, such as converted garages or sheds. In rent intensive Los Angeles County such arrangements are and were quite common. I also was supposed to mark what appeared to be homeless encampments or occupied RVs for a seperate team to survey. Most people I encountered were very friendly but sometimes nervous and I had a whole script regarding how this was for purposes of giving Congressional dollars to the district and had nothing to do with the landlord, the property manager, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the police or any other unwanted attention. I was not even supposed to know their names just how many people reportedly lived at the structure.
I was blown away by the contrast from working at a private sector job where I was rewarded for completing tasks fast and well, with bonuses for exceptional work on those two metrics, to working for government. I was told after my first week that I was surveying too fast for the rest of the team and needed to slow my pace down. The US government had allocated however many dollars for the 2010 Census and we needed to make sure and spend all of the money provided. It was even better if we ran over budget so that we had a reason to ask the US.gov for more money next time. I could see waste even in a government duty with a legitimate purpose mandated by the Constitution. I’m still scratching my head at why the government needs to fund a study into the mating habits of squirrels on LSD or most of the other stuff.
I enjoyed the Census job, as I like venturing out into the real world interacting with people away from the Internet sometimes. It was annoying how many breaks I had to take to keep on speed with the rest of the group. One afternoon while surveying around the Venice Beach Boardwalk a man began talking to me. He asked me where I was from and I said Toledo Ohio and it turned out we had attended the same elementary school. He lamented how mean the kids were to me and apologized profusely if he had said anything bad about me at the time. I couldn’t really remember him. I guess I had blacked it out.
I am mostly very happy with Trump’s flurry of executive actions thus far. I am delighted he dropped the security detail for Anthony Fauci, John Bolton and a few other hacks. Why is the US government paying $20,000 per day to protect these vermin? What does a $2 million PER MONTH security detail entail? Does that involve snipers on the roof for every time you go anywhere? It sounds like an elaborate and Hellish prison of its own.
For Fauci and co there will be no going to the mailbox to check the mail, which presumably has to be inspected first anyways. There’s no dropping in on an old friend over coffee. You’d have to assume that the security detail has to be paid so well because otherwise they wouldn’t protect these awful people. How would you like to be hated that much? Having to pay people $2 million per month to protect you from other people killing you is not a sign of having lived a good life.
The paranoia that must accompany that level of sins is perhaps its own delight to watch…
Now I don’t think anybody would bother killing this poor senile puppet.
I think they protest too much…
Happy soon to be year of the snake. This seemed appropriate
Why is any of this stuff related to these assassination classified?
Now if you count Trump pardoning the J6 prisoners, he may well go above these numbers quickly
This looks like ethnic cleansing. Where does it end?
While I was driving around on food deliveries today I noticed Las Vegas police had stopped and in some cases requested backup on individual motorists. In one case I saw the driver who was wearing a turbin and appeared to be from the Middle East. I wondered if they are bringing in other agencies on deportations.
I have no problem with deporting the low hanging fruit especially of people who A: Very recently arrived in the US illegally especially who are B: Subsidized by the US government to stay here and super especially those who also C: Have racked up a violent criminal record in America. My feeling is strong that the police and intelligence agencies already knew who a lot of these guys were.
Will there ever be justice for the Pandemic measures?
What kind of real solutions to problems could we find if we weren’t incentivizing creating more of them?
It’s a different mood. What do you all think?
I saw a very funny comment on some social media thing somewhere:
Trump is governing like a man who has been shot, indicted, investigated, and impeached and has no fucks left to give.
It's glorious.
I totally agree. IT IS GLORIOUS.
The feel is different. Common sense is winning. Some victories. Year of the snake eating it’s tail seem very accurate. God Bless Amy🙏
