Fun stuff! I’m with you, proud to be an American and outraged by many of our policy decisions. Some say we’re an awful country but better than the alternatives. Others say Scandinavian countries are better with Finland at the top the list. To that I say Finland is horrendously cold, so, no. Finland is also overwhelmingly Protestant, which can cramp people’s style. Besides, I like finding Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Indian, Greek cuisine, fried chicken, BBQ, and hamburgers in the same neighborhood. If we took a world survey, I suspect the huddled masses would say they want to come to America. Everybody wants a hamburger.
“An alien race descended to the Earth many thousands of years ago, who then intermarried and bred with the native human population.” I say, yes. While you’re in the Old Testament, check out the Nephilim if you haven't already. Genesis 6:4 and Numbers 13:33. I’m not certain, but some say they were the reason God told Noah to build a boat.
I’ll check out those verses and get back to you with my thoughts. Having travelled through the US growing up I’ve always been blown away at the diversity of it all. Nothing really compares to it.
About one year ago a Russian man namd Yurra was staying at the campsite for a few months. He didn’t speak good English or Thai language but he was very good with google translate type software in both languages. I asked him what his opinion of the Russia/Ukraine conflict was and he shook his head sadly. The translation came out as “You Americans think we can freely speak about these matters.” It was a sad testament to traumas inflicted all over the globe which we have largely been shielded from…
If Russians abroad can’t speak openly about the war, they’re either under surveillance or heavily indoctrinated. Used to be, we assumed the US didn't have either issue. Ha.
Yes, we have cultural diversity in spades, and Middle Eastern cuisine is on my like list too. But that raises the issue of differences between food culture, ethnic culture, national ideology, and dominant religion. Did you catch Naomi Wolf’s post the other day? She reminded me of my suspicion that Islamic culture is incompatible with anything but itself. It’s not working out so well here despite our notions of religious freedom. What do you think? https://naomiwolf.substack.com/p/a-stopover-in-the-heartland
I read Naomi Wolf's post already and cringed just thinking about it. Genital mutilation is a horrible practice but I feel that way about male circumcision usually performed shortly after birth as well. She did bring up some interesting points regarding the Somali population. Then again they will hardly be the first group to stick with their own on coming to a radically foreign land. Is there corruption in hiring practices that turns it tribal?
Regarding Genesis 6:4 and Numbers 13:33 regarding the Nephilim, I think the entire Book of Enoch explains them...but of course that is not a canonical work...
Thanks for sifting through the muck for us. The Buddhist murder is incredibly disturbing and telling. Keep getting your boosters! It's flu season in July! 🙄 As I have been through at least 3 (what I would consider) awakenings, I will listen to the video! Many blessings.
I am quite saddened to hear that monks use cellphones. It seems at odds with the general job description, but what do I know. Mine never has the battery in it unless I am making a call. (Shout out for landlines). I am living near many Amish folks, and have learned that they will use any technology (mostly farm and building tools) but they will not 'own' them. Slippery slopes.
Very interesting video at end. Thanks.
I really enjoyed that video...
Me too

One of your best posts, no matter where anyone is from.
I’m not sure it agrees with everyone but I am glad it agrees with many…thanks for the feedback
