LOL I thought he was handsome! It was more than that I suppose. He had this sort of wide mouth cat got your tongue smile after I said hello that said "I can't believe she is actually talking to me." I just wasn't used to that. Perhaps I was burnt out by some alpha males who made clear that they had other options, time and time again...
The question about believing in astrology is absurd. Most people think the question means do the planets and the stars influence my life, and that is an absurd belief indeed. Do I believe a clock tells time? If I can read, and it is properly synched up, it can tell me the time in a serviceable manner for my timezone. But the clock does not make the time.
The solar system is a system, and the positions of the planets relative to the background tell me something about the state of the system. Now, are we able to deduce something about what those conditions mean in our lives? How useful is our interpretation? Some people are better at it than others. Most of the people who don't 'believe' in astrology have no idea what it even is, and evidently they have never met a good astrologer. My father was a psychiatrist, and on a few occasions he was stumped with a patient, and he had an astrologer friend who from time to time did very good charts for a few of his patients, and he accepted the fact that this was sometimes an avenue to opening up a course of therapy with a patient. He did that maybe once or twice a year, if a patient was open to it. Astrology would not have survived if there was not something to it... but it is not what most people think it is and there are definitely good astrologers and bad ones.
Astrology is no more or less than a very insightful method to read 'the quality of the time'. And indeed, it are NOT the positions of the planets that 'send vibrations' and influence your life (and everything else for that matter). The clock analogy you gave is quite accurate, as it are not the hands of the clock that influence when it gets dark or light, but their positions give you an indication of the time of day.
I am living in Thailand, and the large majority of foreigners here feel intellectually superior to the 'superstitious' Thais that are seeing signs and clues in everything that they encounter, e.g. an animal that passes their way, the shape of a fruit, last night's dream, etc. But it's all about reading the moment and interpreting what it means which is actually a very connected way of standing in the world. One cannot 'believe in astrology' and at same time - like some astrologers do - reject other divinatory methods, as they are based on the very same principle.
Not sure about astrology.......I think there are certain forces/vibrations all around us, from the earth, moon, and planets. I taught 3rd grade, and definitely saw a change in behavior around a full moon.
I don't believe in astrology at all -- Hell, I'm a Monty Python fan -- but Kary Mullis did make some intriguing arguments and suggested ways to test it.
There's chicken egg problems which play into belief which are more noticed in scientifically testing astrology, but at the same time it's becoming obvious that most of what we think we know has been driven by money and power for a very very long time. All the kings had court astrologers of some sort, it seems...
Whatever you call it magic is there, happens, works.
I've seen, done, been affected by more that enough that's not rational, unexplainable to have no doubts about that.
However it's not always, every time cause and effectual, the same actions do not necessarily produce the same results when repeated.
So, perhaps check if the moon is conjunct Saturn, ride only the tuk tuk of the guy with a Pra Pid Ta, wear your St. Christopher's medal but still, always look both ways before crossing the street.
12 months in a year, 13 moons........12 notes in an octave (13 for some musics).....12 hours of day, 12 hours of night....all just coincident perhaps, but it seems to me that we somehow have become intertwined with the world in such a way that lots of 12's and 13's come up....I was initially impressed with astrology's ability to predict matches, or perhaps, to predict when they will have lots of trouble relating. It's nice to have a general idea of what you mean re Scorpio types, for example. I am a double Virgo, rising and sun sign, astrologers usually sigh a bit before they begin a reading for me; I am a Virgo, becoming a Virgo. A Libra moon keeps that double tension balanced, usually ;}
A double Virgo would be cautious in demeaner and appearance I suppose. Libra moon would be balanced and caring. I believe that astrology can be taken too far as can everything else. It's a useful framework but shouldn't be running your life.
Like many things in the modern era, I believe that it has been polluted with too much BS, sometimes rendering its core features useless.
I have always loved the stars... it's sad to see them fall from the sky. When you think about, life howowever is. Be born and die. The next generation moves on.
(I don't live by the stars... nor read the comments of what your day will be...) in 20 years. Via the paper...
Nope I walk outside and look up, I enjoy watching the skies. Its amazing what a person sees!
I'm dripping with sarcasm tonight. I still haven't heard back on Ka's visa other than to understand that the US Embassy got my package and to send them another one..
Come in, handsome woman.
Good to know it's not just us men who are so easily suckered.

Fully agree with your post.

It's like anything really. It comes down to the content and quality of the astrologer, the breadth and depth of their study and work.
So it can be a scam, or nonsense, or fun entertainment or have profound insights.
Enjoyed this post. Thanks, Amy.
In answer to the poll:
I'm a Libra. Libra's don't believe in astrology.
Brilliant answer! Neither do most Sagitarrius!
Lol

Astrology? Believe in it? No. Disbelieve it? No.
