I have signed onto it and it is confusing. As you are probably well aware many financial websites block you on IP address (i.e. you are in Thailand but you said you are a US citizen and are trying to access a US based website). Thailand sometimes does likewise, not understanding why you are in Thailand if you are not Thai. This is part of the reason I don't want to cancel PayPal and certain accounts I have: I cannot access or start them again if I do.
To be fair, that was a hack. And I wouldn’t be surprised to find out the government did it. Anyone can be hacked. I wouldn’t use anything electronic for illegal activities, yes, even ethical and constitutionally protected “rights” the government decided was illegal on a whim.
Give send go gets you around the unethical big tech game, where players like pay pal can steal your money for posting hurty words…
Give send go got hacked… PayPal would ban you, steal your money, then willingly turn you in.
I seldom use PayPal, but for some small online purchasers, that's all they take. We DEFINITELY need an alternative, because I for one NEVER want to use those scumbags again! They still have the $2,500 penalty scam in force! DISGUSTING THIEVES!!!!! I hope somebody with deep pockets sues the pants off them!
It's time everybody left them and we put them out of business! Time to relegate them to the same Other Dimension as MySpace!
I shut off my PayPunk today. As I’m in Australia, using a credit card to transact in foreign currency attracts a 3% bank fee plus a shitty exchange rate. Insult on top of robbery. So I got a debit card from Wise. Great exchange rates and minuscule fees. We’ve got to pay attention to this foundational stuff.
I added Stripe it was not even that hard. It just wasn't thinking about it at the time I set it up. Hopefully it's different now: https://ko-fi.com/amysukwan
Ideally I would send you a check in the mail. Slow, but then we (as a group) would be more connected anyway, though some more trust would be involved to share addresses. But the grandma in me says mail a check.
Wise (formerly transferwise) is useful as a foreigner living in Thailand. If you get most of your fiat donations in USD, then perhaps withdraw to a US bank account, you can then send those dollars to your Wise account. Then convert the USD to any currency, such as THB, and send to your Thai bank account (for me the charge in GBP is usually 30 pence). This has saved me a lot on the foreign ATM card withdrawal fees in Thailand. You'd need to order the wise card to a US residential address first, then have someone mail it to Thailand:
As for crypto, a good resource to start with is Jameson Lopp - he is pro-decentralisation and pro open-source. His site has reams of information on privacy and security dos and don'ts for crypto - by far the most important aspects to study before looking at investment bags:
Great information thank you. I'm going to be checking into Wise quite a bit is in USD. Trying to move on from the scammy crypto sites which always seem to feature a really hot chick on a lamborghini in front of a seaside mansion
The link is about the lighting network, which allows you to use bitcoin to send money instantly with very low fees. I haven't tried it, but it looks interesting. The author answered a couple of my stupid questions, so he'll probably walk you through it if you can use it.
I'm also looking for a bank that will allow me to use ATMs without ridiculous fees. I've even toyed with the idea of carrying lots of cash so I don't have to deal with the nonsense. And a few times, B of A has refused to pay Airbnb, refused my cards at an ATM, etc. This is not fun in a foreign country!
I recently deleted my Paypal acct for political reasons, of course. Then I wanted to donate a small gift card to a cat rescue group, so I joined Paypal again because that's what the cat rescue uses. Paypal informed me my account was limited and they'd hold the funds for 180 days. But the donation went through. The whole banking thing is so disgusting and degrading!
It is. My bet is that a lot of smaller charities are seeing donations dry up and have no idea why. If you're just doing a cat rescue you probably aren't following the political winds on the payment processor
I hope they start thinking about it and that you weren't the only one to speak up. Thank you so much for the link I'm reading it. Bank of America right now, in their effort to make banking 1984 again, unlinked my previously linked Chime bank account and will not relink it. So now it costs $3 for a 3 business days (monday-Friday excluding all holidays) transfer or $10 for a one business day (also excluding holidays) transfer from a US BANK to a US BANK. Everything in that old system is brittle, slow, expensive, promises the world but gives nothing in return...
We're trying out Wise right now. On Saturday we transferred $100 from Bank of America to Bangkok Bank. The transfer charge was $2.10 and the exchange rate was 37.3. This morning we did another transfer and the rate was 37.4.
I was using Xoom previously and they were more expensive, and the exchange rate was about 1 baht per dollar less, but it was mildly easier because they are owned by PayPal and could transfer money directly out of my PayPal account.
For totally based crypto information, the best place to start is https://cryptovigilante.io. Jeff Berwick, the Dollar Vigilante (https://dollarvigilante.tv) has been doing this since jump street. I can sum up the best advice he's ever given me with one word: Monero. All the best to you and keep up the great reporting! ROCK ON \m/
Just sent this post Amy to one Canadian pod caster who is really trying to get the word out to the masses about what is happening with the medical tyranny we are finding ourselves drowning in at this time. I noticed she has (paay you go pall) as part of her payment schedule and suspect they will pounce soon with her so called mis/ dis/ info , whatever the label is these days. Thank you so much for all you are doing .
I have a local bank account (used to be a locally owned bank, but got bought by a corporate years ago.) It is a grandfathered "free checking" account. They do not charge to transfer to other banks, though it usually takes a day or so (up to 5 business days they say.)
I don't keep much in there, as my primary account with them got repeatedly nuked by paypal while overdrafted and ran up over $700 in $32 NSF fees because paypal refused to acknowledge that every time they forced an NSF it increased the odds of me not being able to bring the account current. That bank account got shut down, of course. My remaining account there is joint with my ex/mother of my children, and we use it to transfer money back and forth when one of us is short and the other isn't. But I like to keep its balance light so no money accidentally gets withdrawn unexpectedly, and I don't trust the bank not to wrangle that account over the closed one.
but it's nice to be able to deposit cash and make card transactions the same day to save fuel driving across town or places that aren't local. I often deposit cash and transfer it to my internet bank account.
The second account is Aspiration Bank (aspiration.com) They have some funky greenwashing policies and nag to upgrade to a paid account, but it is also free. You get like 20 free checks on request. They do referral bonuses, to both ends. I can give you a link if you want. I've dealt with them for a few years now and never had any issues.
CreditKarma offers online checking and savings now too... also free. Debit card and remote deposit only. I don't really trust them, but retain the accounts with $.01 each just in case I ever need them.
Watch out for venmo, they are now owned by paypal, though they don't make that obvious.
Your contribution came at a perfect time because I had no money in either paypal or Chime at the time. So I am honored if that that was your first contribution as it is one of very few times where I can really say exactly line by line where the money went to. It came out to $7.51 roundabouts which with a tiny bit in my Chime account it came out to 300 baht roundabouts. 30 baht went to coffee, 42 baht to bread, 38 baht to four pieces of cheese, 54 baht to 10 eggs, 24 baht to cereal, 24 baht to a small milk, 14 baht to noodles, 54 baht to cooking oil, 20 baht to cheetos. I am definitely planning on posting more in this. It is difficult for people to live out country all over the world. Banking wise, very difficult...
Here in Missouri, coffee ranges from the cheapest (Aldi) at just under $4 for 12oz to over $12 for locally roasted. Average around $6 without sales. I don't usually buy store bread unless I'm lazy but it's rare to find anything but the Wonder Bread quality swill at or under $2. Cheese? $5/lb. Milk? $3.80-$5/gallon. Noodles are still cheap. Oil, I don't need to buy very often, but decent non-seed oil like coconut hits me for $7 and up each time. Cheetos? $2-4.
With $7, I definitely would not be able to buy very many of the staples you listed. I'm glad that you were able to.
Gab pay. Check out gab. The people using it seem to like it, and the owner is fully committed to free speech.
Give send go functions like that other online charity. Don’t know if you could use it to move money. I dont see why not.
I am on Gab as Amy Sukwan. I have been reading about it and will dig into. Yes give send go is a better looking charity

Link your Kofi to Stripe.
I was going to hit you with a Kofi and the Paypal stopped me dead in my tracks.
Paypal is bad bad news. That Paypal Mafia is CIA. Musk, Thiel. and I think others.
I added Stripe it was not even that hard. It just wasn't thinking about it at the time I set it up. Hopefully it's different now: https://ko-fi.com/amysukwan
PayPal behaviour is clearly illegal, immoral, and un-Constitutional.
It needs to be sued.
