Interesting that you were thinking about Lake Superior. I have lived near the ocean AND Lake Superior. She is every bit as powerful.

I really enjoy the UP of Michigan. I've been to Pictured rocks several times though I've missed Isle Royale National Park. Lake Superior is absolutely gorgeous with its crystal clear blue waters. There is feeling of the power of it I agree. I saw the meme on facebook somewhere and it made me think of the Edmund Fitzgerald song. Boy does it get cold up there though...

Ladies ask your husbands . . . WOW - LOVED the response to THAT post!

Also, great explanation for millionaire right-offs and how they can work, esp with art. Damn.

And I SO want that shark to catch up with Gates.

And the Kipling quote. That's good for a course correction.

Great set, Amy!!!!!

Last time I checked, the tax code allows the millionaire to get the tax deduction immediately while keeping the artwork and later physically donating the artwork to the museum at the time of millionaire's death. Gotta love how the rules are different for them.

Nifty counterculture meme. Countercultures help us balance taking ourselves too seriously with not taking ourselves seriously enough. No offense to the couple on the left (do your thing just don't hurt anybody), but I hope the couple on the right is closer to balanced.

Counterculture at its best is supposed to be pushing a trend which is ahead of its time. In 1980 as such a huge generation of baby boomers were coming of age rebellion would come in the form of eschewing all of that marriage/kids/family stuff. Now that birth rates are plummeting globally it seems to me that an idea ahead of its time is that overpopulation is not the problem. It's always a balancing act...

Regarding Maddie's father I never met him personally but I suppose it is a sad reminder that nothing has returned back to normal, as it were. The beat goes on indeed...
