From what you wrote, it is clear for me that it is useless to keep on trying to get your husband into the US by following the legal process. Due to the ridiculous waiting times of months-years to process the application, by the time it gets approved the process will have changed again requiring new documents (as you already found out).

The only viable options are a job assignment at a Hospital for Ka (good luck with that one...), but I think you might forget about that one as he does not have any of the right qualifications for such an assignment.

That leaves the Mexican option. Sounds feasible for me: just get a Tourist Visa for Mexico for Ka, and once in Mexico have him cross the southern border. Of course, there is little chance of him becoming 'legal' after doing that, but it would just be a way of letting him make acquaintance with the USA and your family. I doubt that he will be enthusiastic to stay there, as you can take a Thai out of Thailand but you cannot take Thailand out of a Thai.

My conclusion: Better to stop chasing an 'impossible dream' . Especially since it would be far easier if you just came back to Thailand and live your life here with Ka. And once the whole disfunctional US Immigration system has collapsed (which will happen eventually), then you can consider a joint trip to your roots.

LOL I had to laugh at your analysis! You might be able to understand the arguments of the last few years between us (no good or bad guys here style) as A; You come America with me and B: No screw that you stay with me in Thailand! Then there's financial, social pressure, the pandemic pressure thrown in. I think Ka would like to come to America and does show an interest in it. But when he hears I spent $490 on some form he goes ballistic about it. He sure isn't interested in giving up anything in Thailand to get here. The entire system needs to be overhauled it's beyond redemption

The bureaucracy is no longer just a time sink—its hemorrhaging our wallets too (amongst other things). The energy drain on you and your family must be beyond frustrating, especially given the inability to get timely response or actually speak to a person on a matter of such personal legal importance. Brings to mind the tale of Mehran Karimi Nasseri who floated in legal limbo for nearly 2 decades.

And to think they claim to have no funding to assist US citizens, all the while funneling hundreds of billions to the MIIC for chicanery abroad. All of the systems are beyond broken. It’s beyond corrupted. The dysfunction is so entrenched. Any talk about restructuring and reform is a bad joke.

I am confused and lost. It would be better to have husband fly to Mexico walk across border

Get a biden t shirt and cell phone ,cash and no shots BUT! Most likely not a safe plan. But Covid stupid has made every system that was complicated expensive beyond anyone’s comprehension. The devil is in the details.

I am starting to look into that option. I have actually heard that they are arranging tours of this type from Africa. You need a visa for Mexico with a Thailand passport though and the biggest battle is always at the front gate in the airport. They stop you before you get on the plane usually that's where the biggest problems are...

Well that’s just plane crazy!

I can’t believe that they insist on vaxxinated everyone and making travel soo difficult.

I think they still want to just make travel difficult another way to keep people from living a decent life. Lockdowns mask 6 feet apart they just make this shit up.

Fly in their lear jets

But ohhh you common folks

Walk cross the open border

Place your life on line like bets

Ain’t no law no order

Get back in line

A lot of this no longer pertains to you - you're past I-130 (USCIS stage) and NVC fees aren't going up as far as I know. Some good news re: covid shot - print this out for medical exam https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/proof-of-vaccination.html/#us-residents and you won't have to show proof of covid shot for immigrant visa. Might take some back and forth with the medical people but they have to accept it. It apparently hasn't trickled down to all panel-physicians but this requirement is no longer looked at come visa issuance. Friend's friend experience from late 2022 - no shot, approved visa and now in the US. For other vaccines, hopefully either not age appropriate or blanket waiver would work.

For I-864, can't use principal residence for assets - they just won't consider it as it would be hardship on all including the petitioner if you sell the house that's your only residence. Find a joint sponsor and bring those papers with you to the interview.

Both me and mom have low assets and the same house currently. Thank you Milmelo I figured you would weigh in on this one. I have been trying to make sense of a lot of what you have told me, but I've had different experiences of similar things. I'm listening. I hope you're right about NVIC not going up this time. All this crazy about H1B up to 6 hundred something and I'm like, nah, they just tacked on this $2000 extra....

Oh my gosh, Amy! I can’t BELIEVE this is going on. Why do they even care? I know...money. But still... And like you mentioned, all that money to Ukraine! It’s maddening. What does it mean to sponsor your husband?

And what does this mean? “The price of employment authorization and advance parole are also proposed to rise to $650 and $630 total.” <-Early parole?

Advance parole is not a jail term in this instance it has to do with being released from restrictions regarding an immigration class. When somebody immigrates legally they must have a sponsor, which is someone who is either a US citizen or a US resident who says that they can support them. Hopefully you don't have to as they can work whatever job they want to with a green card, but if they become a public charge (eg seek public assistance) the sponsor is financially responsible for it. A sponsor has minimum income requirements which goes directly to a head with the welfare that I am now fully eligible for. It's a gigantic WTF mess and this post is a living document that I plan on editing and adding to with time. I don't think most people are aware of how insane this is.

"The system rewards all of the wrong things every step of the way."

Says it all... I'm sorry.

Since the dawn of time, humans have worked to make life better and more "civilized", and inevitably the systems become bloated, corrupt and inefficient, and eventually collapse under their own weight. It's the Circle of Life...
